Ascend to Zero builds hub

Welcome to the Ascend to Zero builds hub — the planning layer between beginner fundamentals and min-maxed endgame. A Ascend to Zero build is how you combine avatar skills, weapons, Tech Chips, and gear across one climb from room one to the Bunker elevator.

Unlike static tier lists, builds are process: what you pick before the run, what drafts you favor mid-run, and how you spend Time Freeze beats in boss rooms. This hub organizes archetypes so you can jump to best builds for starters or drill into tech chips and weapons for specialists.

Ascend to Zero launched July 13, 2026 on Steam and Xbox Game Pass. Launch-week routes below mix verified systems (Freeze Resume, auto-aim weapons, chip categories) with community patterns we mark uncertain until datamining catches up.

If you only need one answer today, read best builds first. Return here when you want templates for glass cannon, freeze stall, drone scaling, or bunker rush pacing.

The four build axes in detail

Avatar axis — chosen in Bunker or character select. Sets Resume Special identity: Chrono Child AoE, Blossom Blade wave, Golden Gunslinger knockback, Frost Moon Hacker drones. Avatar level in Bunker meta can reduce Freeze cooldown per weapon level — long-term synergy with multi-weapon loadouts.

Weapon axis — mostly pre-run. Weapons auto-attack without manual aim; style splits into sword melee, gun ranged, and drone overlays. Extra weapon slots unlock through Bunker progression. Wrong weapon choice cannot be rerolled like chips — plan on weapons.

Tech Chip axis — entirely in-run. Level-up drafts stack tags: damage, Freeze cooldown, Resume triggers, boss modifiers, timer economy. This is where Ascend to Zero builds break wide open or collapse into unrelated stat crumbs.

Gear / gadget axis — hybrid. Some slots fill in Bunker before departure; others appear as drops. Six gadget slots and multiple weapons are possible in mature accounts. Gear passives should echo chip tags instead of fighting them — see gear.

Time Freeze is the hidden fifth axis: not a gear slot, but the timing skill that multiplies every other choice. Builds without a Resume plan are just collections of stats.

How to plan a run build

Step one: pick a win condition. Boss speed? Timer safety? XP per minute for Bunker currency? Your win condition picks the avatar on best avatar.

Step two: match weapon family. Melee avatars want swords; kiting avatars want guns; drone avatars want ranged baselines that do not conflict with Resume volleys.

Step three: declare two chip tags before entering floor one — for example "Freeze cooldown" plus "Resume damage." Every level-up filters through those tags until the run forces a defensive pivot.

Step four: equip gadgets that multiply tags. Cooldown reduction gadgets with cooldown chips; second weapons with gun avatars; defensive cores if you are learning Ascend to Zero timer flow.

Step five: boss rehearsal. Identify which Resume animation you will use on the boss add wave and which Freeze you will use to loot between phases. Read bosses for Time Glitcher notes.

Document your route mentally or in notes — Phase 3 Build Planner will formalize sharing URLs later. For now, reuse templates from the archetype table below.

  • Track01Declare avatar + weapon before queueing a run.
  • Track02Choose two chip tags to hunt in drafts.
  • Track03Slot one defensive gadget when available.
  • Track04Preview boss Resume timing on prior floors.
  • Track05Spend Bunker upgrades per progression between attempts.

Build archetype templates

Use these Ascend to Zero build templates as starting points — not law. Swap details via best builds once you know your skill floor.

Balanced Learner — Chrono Child, flexible weapon, Freeze cooldown + economy chips, one damage tag by mid-run. Goal: learn timer and Resume without hard fail.

Melee Burst — Blossom Blade, sword, melee + Resume chips, minimal ranged tags. Goal: delete packs on Resume waves.

Ranged Kite — Golden Gunslinger, gun/shotgun, ranged damage + knockback Resume, optional second weapon gadget. Goal: safe timer with high live DPS.

Drone Scaling — Frost Moon Hacker, ranged/drone weapon, drone + Resume volley chips, extra weapon slots. Goal: late-floor spike — marked advanced.

Freeze Stall — any avatar, weapon matching avatar, heavy cooldown + loot chips, defensive gear. Goal: survive while learning — slower clears.

Glass Cannon — Golden Gunslinger or Blossom Blade, max damage chips after one safety pick, boss modifier tags. Goal: speed — fragile on damage taken.

Early, mid, and late run phases

Early run (floors 1–2) — prioritize any chip that stabilizes timer or raises weapon floor. Do not commit to glass cannon yet. Ascend to Zero builds that spike early often die to the first elite pack if they skipped economy.

Mid run (pre-boss) — commit to synergy tags. Reroll off-tag drafts unless desperate. This is where Tech Chips separate good runs from great ones — see tech chips evaluation framework.

Boss phase — shift to burst logic. Save Freeze for add waves or safe looting between telegraphs. Resume should align with boss hitbox windows, not random trash mobs if timer is low.

Late run / post-boss — either push deeper for XP farming or extract to Bunker if timer is unstable. Meta progression rewards clears — consult progression for currency priorities.

Between runs, upgrade avatars and weapons in Bunker so early phase is less punishing. Ascend to Zero build power is split 40% meta, 60% in-run drafts for most launch accounts.

Community build routes (launch week)

Players are already sharing Ascend to Zero builds on forums and streams. We track patterns, not unverified DPS numbers.

Cooldown stackers — multiple chips and gadgets shaving Freeze cooldown until rooms become "freeze, loot, resume, repeat." Strong with Chrono Child; weak if damage tags neglected.

Resume one-shotters — minimal live combat, maximal burst when time flows again. Blossom Blade clips and Golden Gunslinger knockback combos fit here — timing-intensive.

Multi-weapon passives — Bunker accounts with two or more weapons letting auto-attack carry fights while the player manages Freeze. Requires unlock investment; see weapons.

Chip zero experiments — early access footage references special chip interactions near bosses. Treat as uncertain until verified post-launch.

Submit corrections when datamined — entity build pages under /builds/{slug} are Phase 2. Until then, this hub plus best builds stay the source of truth.

Phase 3 build tools (planned)

This Ascend to Zero builds hub will connect to interactive tools once Phase 3 ships:

Build Planner — pick avatar, weapon, chips, gear; export a shareable URL. Damage Calculator — estimate Resume burst plus auto-attack DPS. Chip Synergy Finder — suggest tag combos.

Until then, use wiki search placeholder and manual notes. Tools do not replace Freeze skill — they accelerate planning between runs.

Track launch patches on updates — balance changes will shift archetype rankings faster than static guides.

FAQ

How do Ascend to Zero builds work?

Combine avatar, weapon, Tech Chips, and gear. Chips draft on level-up; other axes mostly pre-run. Time Freeze Resume is the skill multiplier.

Where are starter builds?

best builds lists curated launch-week routes per avatar.

Can I respec mid-run?

Chips are draft choices — reroll bad offers. Weapons and avatar are fixed unless Bunker systems allow swaps (verify in-game).

What build counters Time Glitchers?

Live DPS plus target priority — they move during Freeze. See bosses and Time Freeze.

When is the Build Planner live?

Phase 3. This hub documents templates until simulators ship.
